Windows 95
Windows 95 is not officially supported, but you're welcome to attempt using MapWindow and MapWinGIS on Windows 95. Please let us know of your experiences. Make a backup first or use a non-critical computer for your own safety.
Windows 98 (First Edition)
Windows 98 requires the following updates BEFORE downloading and installing MapWindow or MapWinGIS:
- Microsoft Windows 98 Y2K Patch 1
- Microsoft Windows 98 Y2K Patch 2
- Windows Installer 2.0 Update
- Latest Service Pack (available through Microsoft Windows Update)
Note: If you ran an installer that was released prior to December 19, 2005 on Windows 98 (the day we officially proclaimed "Windows-98 Compatible"), you may have some incorrect DLL versions on your computer which will prevent even the new installer from working. In this case, we regret that the solution is a little tedious: install Windows 98 again ON TOP of your existing installation. You don't need a complete reformat and reinstall - just installing over your existing installation will preserve your settings, programs and documents, yet still restore the necessary files. This only applies if you used an installer from before December 19, 2005 on Windows 98 and can't get the new installer to work.
Windows 98 SE (Second Edition)
