Normally you can find the layout binaries at
http://svn.mapwindow.org/svnroot/MapWindow4Dev/Bin/ApplicationPlugins/mwLayout/

But because we're thoroughly testing all plug-ins right now, we've moved the binaries.
You can get them now from
http://svn.mapwindow.org/svnroot/MapWindow4Dev/Bin/Plugins_Backup/ApplicationPlugins/mwLayout/

You need all binaries in that folder.

I downloaded all five files and installed them into my plugins folder. Then I started Mapwindow (MapWindowx86Full-v48Beta-installer.exe)

1. A "Print Layout" menu item appeared in Tools. Clicking on it turned it off. Opening "Tools" and clicking on "Print Layout" again did not turn it back on. It stayed off until I restarted MW.

2. I can't find a button that will let me configure "Print Layout."

Well, the print-layout function no longer works. In 4.8.2, it worked fine. But in 4.8.3, it does nothing but produce the message "An Error Has Occurred."

I reported this a few weeks ago (issue 1980), but no one seems to have noticed.

This is a serious problem, since MapWindow has no way to generate a large digitized .GIF file of a large, detailed map in its entirety, except by "printing" the map to a pseudo-printer that creates .GIF files instead of paper copies.

We've made some changes the last days to the print lay-out and I've been testing in severely and don't get any errors.

Can you tell me what steps you do, what data you use and what the error is?

If you've got an error about ScaleFont it is already reported.
We're working on that.

The data I'm trying to print is a large map of Chicago. I sent you a shapefile and a .dbf file a few days ago in response to your inquiry about issue #1980.

But the data should be of no concern, since it's the same data that worked fine in 4.8.2.

Roy you mentioned that there was no way to export a big good quality .gif of the map. Well I just added the functionality, it will be a few days before it makes it into the next build. There is now an option under File->Export->Export Map HQ. Which will allow you to export just the map to a variety of image formats as well as to a vector based .EMF file. (just check of the vector based option)

I've sent the files to bontepaarden at the address you specified.

I downloaded the 4.8.3 version that was online under the "monthly" link today, July 19. I tried printing the sample US map, and it printed with no problems. Then I opened my own project file and tried to print the map. I got the same error I've been reporting for the past month or two.

I suspect the problem with printing has to do with the size of my project.

The project has 28 layers. Each of them has its own separate shapefile and dbf file. The ones with "precinct" in the name have dbf files that are over 4 MB in size.

P.S. It would probably be good to give a different name to each subversion that gets published, if only by appending a letter to the version name. For instance, "4.8.3d."

And/or it might also be good to put the date of the file alongside the filename on the downloads page.

Both of these would save people from downloading versions they already have. (I downloaded "4.8.3" at the beginning of the month, thinking it was the monthly build, and only when I ran it did I find out that it was the version I already had.)

You also mention that you are creating weekly builds. Where are those downloadable from?

I've got your files and will test them later.

You're right about the version numbers it is getting a bit confusing.
For v4.9 we will make sure every installer gets its own version number.

Because we're about to publish the final version of 4.8 I'm doing the weekly build almost on a daily basis right now. These files are published at: [svn.mapwindow.org] You need TortoiseSVN to easily get them.
I'm also creating a new beta installer every Friday evening (UTC+2) now.

Hi Everyone,

Alright I've run through all the label/vector scaling problems we've been having. Labels should now scale to the appropriate size when printed at any quality. Same for vector components like lines and markers. They will now also be scaled so that they are the same relative size to the map as they appear on your screen.

Unfortunately hatch patterns are defined in the graphics library on a pixel level. This means that when you print a pattern (ex 1 pixel wide vertical bands.) they will print 1 pixel wide as well. Which will make them look considerably different on a 300PPI resolution print when compared with a 96PPI monitor. So please keep this in mind when printing. If you want you hatches to print wider you will need to modify the symbology in the application. I'm looking for a work around but I haven't found one yet and I may never!

I never used a subversion system before, but now I've downloaded and studied the first 47 pages of the TortoiseSVN manual. This allowed me to create on my computer a working copy of the repository from the location you cited below.

However, when I attempt to run the MapWindow.exe file in the working directory, I immediately get the error message, "MapWindow.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."

What might be the problem?

I've discovered the source of the problem. I created the working directory on a computer that does not have .NET Framework v3.5 installed.
