What format is your image: PNG, ECW?

Is the image georeferenced?

You can also open the image first as an image object and then change some settings.

hi,

images are in gif format and not georeferenced.
I am working with several number of images and
each image opens taking a new layer.
is it possible to open all images in a single layer?

If you want to open them as a layer, it's better to georeference them.
After that you can scale them as well by changing the scale value in the world file.
