Morning all,
I have been looking at MW as a cost effective GIS solution. So far, things look very promising except for this issue. We have begun using the GPS tools and after a little poking, have figured out how to connect to the GPS unit.

We have a: "USGlobalSat BU-353 WaterProof WAAS Enabled USB GPS Receiver" that works very well for a subscription free unit. We have made the GPS connection to the MW but the map update is so slow. It did not take long to acquire the GPS signal, but while driving, the cursor does not appear to move. I traveled about 1/2 mile and had to pull over for like 5 minutes and wait for the cursor to catch up to my position.

I looked at the GPS Info and there looked to be a constant connection with data but the map project just could not update to real-time like it should. My first assumption was a datum issue. It made sense that the GPS collected WGS84 and was perhaps translating it to a stateplane projection causing the lag. I promptly reprojected the data to WGS84 to eliminate that process.

Once complete, we retested the GPS component and continued with the same data lag we had previous. I could not find settings for controlling the data capture rate thinking that might have something to do with the lag.

Any ideas about what my problem is or how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. kirkk@apsu.edu

We had the same issues with the GPS plug-in that is shipped with MapWindow so we created a new one use the GPS.Net framework (currently being redesigned to DotSpatial.Position by the original author).

We cannot yet make this plug-in available for free because we have put a lot of resources in it to make it work (in fact we're currently working on a update).

If you contact me we can work something out.
