I am labelling a layer and it works fine. However, I was attempting to label a layer and a message box appears stating "Error In FindXYValues()"

The problem is that this message box appears for each label it tries to perform. If my layer has 2000 labels, I have to click OK or Cancel 2000 times to get out of this. It should detect this error and then abort the labelling process altogether or prompt to continue, where the user can abort from there as well.

Is your shapefile valid? The only time I can see this happening is when your shapes are not valid. Also, does this have to do with programming with ActiveX? Or should you put it in the MW application group?

Like AGP I'm also confused. This question seems to belong in the MW application forum.

I've made a script that is checking all shapes in the loaded shapefile: TestingScripts/ValidateShapes.cs
Could you open your shapefile in MapWindow and run the script in the script editor?

I agree it is very annoying to click 2000 times.
Could you also report this to Mantis, attach the shapefile and refer to this post? So we can try and fix the popping up of the error message.

Thanks,

Paul

I am working through the "Introduction to MapWindow Version 4.3 Tutorial", 2/19/2007, page 53.

When I try to label U.S. States I get "Error in FindXYValues(): Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

The error message box will not close so I have to shut MW down through the Task Manager.

Any suggestions on how the Issue can be resolved?

Dear Paul

I was using MapWindow47Sra-x64-Setup as I am using Windows 7, 64 bit.

I have downloaded 4.8 and everything seems to be OK.

Thanks very much (after struggling with ArcGIS for a couple of weeks, MW is a "dream"!).

In the meantime would it be possible for you to point me in the direction of somewhere/ someone who could help me with the post that I placed in MapWindow 4 - Desktop Application: "Unwrapping Cylindrical Projections at Longitude other than 180 degrees". I saw the same issue in doing the "Introduction to MapWindow Version 4.3 Tutorial", 2/19/2007, page 53, where in full extent the U.S. is on the far left and some of the Islands of Alaska are on the far right hand side.

Thanks again.

John

John,

I'm glad the never version fixed your problems.

About the other post. That is a bit difficult. Perhaps you can look at the GDAL tools (www.gdal.org) I think you can split an image and then stitch (mosaic) them together again in a different order.

MapWindow is using the GDAL library so you can get the binaries from [svn.mapwindow.org]

Hope it helps.

Dear Paul

I had a look at GDAL tools (www.gdal.org) and the binaries from (svn.mapwindow.org) and they are a bit further down the road than I have reached at the moment.

The Photoshop plus georeferencing solution for the raster was OK for the scale that I was working at.

The problem is with the vector shape files and I was hoping that there was an easy way to get into them and add 360 degrees to the longitude of all shapes between 180(W) and 25W.

Thanks for your time.

John
