Hi everyone
I'm trying to get into some basic GIS work, and MapWindow seemed like a really good choice when it came to open source software. I'm eager to get started, but I can't run it.
I'm using Windows XP (32bit) and I've tried putting both the Desktop Application and the Active X components on my PC. The Application installs fine, but won't start, stating:
"A reboot is required after installing. If rebooting does not help, register MapWinGIS.ocx (Could not register MapWinGIS.ocx) View or send error details?"
The Active X setup I thought might fix that; it installs fine up until the end, when the error message:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\MapWindow\MapWinGIS.ocx
Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3."
Could anyone help me straighten this out? Many Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I am having exactly the same issue. Maybe a buggy install file?

Try to uninstall all versions of MapWindow, download the latest beta installer: MapWindowx86Full-v48Beta-installer.exe and try again.

Unfortunately, I am also having exactly the same issue, have updated everything I can find, .net, activex have uninstalled and reinstalled five times now and tried downloading it a second time incase there was a problem during the download itself, still the same message. How do you register the ocx file? I am using Vista so could that be the issue?

Do you use a 32Bit or 64Bit version of Vista.
You did install the 4.8 beta installer?
What happens if you run the installer as Admin?
In the folder MapWindow is installed should be a file called regMapWinGIS.cmd. Try running that one.

Do you use a 32Bit or 64Bit version of Vista.
You did install the 4.8 beta installer?
What happens if you run the installer as Admin?

First post here....
Just to let all know I was also having an install issue, MapWinGIS.ocx was not registering no matter what I did (rgesvr32, install as admmin, etc.).
Unistalled 4.8 and tried the new 'Beta' installer. Worked like a charm on Windows 7 Home Premium. I suspect it was the VC runtimes, included in the beat installer, that fixed it.
I did NOT try to install the VC runtimes separately, looking back I should have.
