I encountered nearly the same problem, I got connected to the postgis database, get to select a layer but the layer doesn't appear in the map window. I guess each app has it's strengths. Quantum GIS has amazing Postgis connecting capabilities but Map Windows has better printing capabilities.
Please email me if you have any other suggestions on how to connect to Postgis with Mapwindows

Prost!

I saw in another post that its looking for the PGSQL2SHP.EXE file in the system path. Simply add your local installation of PostgreSQL or copy the binary and any dependancies to the MapWindow directory or a directory on your system path.

Perfect! Thanks Craig.
I copied the PostgreSQL folder (and all sub folders) which is under C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL to C:\Program Files\MapWindow (thus C:\Program Files\MapWindow\PostgreSQL) and now it works!
Regards
Nico

Surely this is a temp solution as you can't have two "installations" of PortGreSQL on your system. As for the systems path, I cant see that there is a problem because mine is directed to the databasePlugin.
I get a dialog box asking me to select a layer. No layers appear, somewere their is no SQL statement firing asking to view the "geometry_columns" table
I am on version 4.6.602
Which versions have succesfully viewed postgis layers?
Thanks for the help this far, its amazing.

I am also using MapWindow version 4.6.602 with PostGreSQL version 8.2.
I've also attached an image as example where I've been able to link my PostGreSQL data with MapWindow GIS
All the best

TWO THINGS..
"Simply add your local installation of PostgreSQL or copy the binary and any dependancies to the MapWindow directory or a directory on your system path."
"I copied the PostgreSQL folder (and all sub folders) which is under C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL to C:\Program Files\MapWindow (thus C:\Program Files\MapWindow\PostgreSQL) and now it works!"
1)I followed the steps above but am still getting the same error msg that was in the initial post of this thread.
2)I am also wondering why I have more available layers (even though I cannot add them because of #1) when trying to add through MapWindow than I do in pgAdminIII [see attachment].
* * EDIT * * I just resorted to using QGIS, not like that's a lesser alternative or anything .. I even did it from my USB stick via [www.archaeogeek.com]

Having the same problems as above.
I added the postgres-bin-folder to the systempath of the enviroment variables.
Now the previous mentioned error doesn't appear, but still no luck.
The shp2pgsql.exe crashes!
Does anyone have a clue?

Hi there
I doesn't make sense to me that you have to move your whole bin folder to a specific file-folder in the mapwindows project. If you have Postgis loaded then Mapwindows should be able to call the pgsql2shp.exe from a normal cli or cmd because the postgis variable path is already inplace and that bin contains the required .exe
So the function within Mapwindows is not calling the correct .exe.
A long way around is to do what I did and get the entire source code and re-code this function. Your command doesn't have to point to a specific file/folder, you can run it directly from windows "run" cli/cmd.

PostGIS is currently no longer supported by MapWindow.
You can use this plug-in that was created by a user:
Currently 2 students are working on implementing SQLite and PostGIS support in the OCX.
That will take a few more months. If you are in no hurry you can wait for that as well.
