GISTools:Vector
From MapWindow GIS
The GIS Tools Vector menu item contains functionality for working with vector data like ESRI Shapefiles (*.shp).
The functions available here include:
Assign Projection to Shapefile
This tool allows the user to assign a projection to a vector data object. The projection data is written to the projection file (.prj), but no actual reprojection occurs. This is functionally equivalent to ESRI’s “Define Projection” tool.
This tool will take an existing shapefile and reproject the data to another projection.
This tool creates buffer shapefiles at selected distances from the original features.
This tool allows the user to calculate the areas of a selected shapefile. See also the Update Measurements instructions for a plug in that will measure line length, polygon perimeter and area.
This tool allows the user to clip a polygon in one shapefile with a line in another shapefile.
This tool allows the user to clip one polygon by using a second polygon.
This tool allows the user to create holes within a polygon area.
Export Selected Shapes to New Shapefile
This tool allows the user to select a feature or set of features from one shapefile and export to a new shapefile.
Export Shapes to New Shapefile by Mask
This tool allows the user to use one shapefile or its features to select features from a second shapefile and then export them to a new shapefile.
This tool allows the user to merge two or more features into one feature.
